The Lord is in His holy temple

“The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.” - Psalms 11v4

The psalmist here was in great distress. He was surrounded by his enemies and it seemed like the very foundations were destroyed. “If the very foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous possibly hope to do?” he asks.

We certainly live in a day and age when it seems our very foundations are destroyed. Standards of morality and decency are gone, few if any recognise that there truly is a standard. Every man does that which is right in his own eyes.

We need not be in despair. Verse four reminds us that the Lord is still in His holy temple, His throne is in heaven, and he is carefully watching over each of us. The phrase “his eyelids try the children of men” indicates that He is carefully scrutinising all that is going on in our lives.

Praise God that even as the props are being knocked out the Lord is still in His holy temple, His throne is still in heaven, and He is watching out for us.
