For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6.23
When it is all said and done there are only two possible
fates for all eternity. There is no in between. There are no maybes. Once the
end comes there are no more chances.
The wages of sin is death.
Let's just think about that for a second. Everyone who has
ever been born is a sinner. Try as might we can't be good enough to over come
that truth. All of our good works can't cancel out wages of sin that we all deserve because we all sin. If we stopped with the first part of the verse it would be
very, very, very bad news.
But the gift of God eternal life.
And that 'but' makes all the difference in the world. It is
the only 'but' that counts. The wages of sin is death, BUT...
The gift of God is eternal life. ‘For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son…’ Salvation is a free gift because it is so
precious that no one could possibly earn.
It cost Christ everything to give us that free gift. May we
never forget what it cost Him.
