Having made peace

and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled – Colossians 1.20-21

Sin really made a mess of things. Before sin Adam and Eve walked in totally peace and harmony with God. Nothing stood between them and Him. There was perfect peace and harmony. Everything was, in the perfect sense of the phrase, rosy in the garden.

But then Adam and Eve sinned and everything was broken. The relationship was severed. Where there was once peace now there was division.

And man could do nothing about it. He was at enmity with God. Sin created so great a gulf that man had no hope. There was no reconciliation to be found.

But God provided a way for the sin debt to be paid.

Christ made peace through the blood of His cross.

Note a one of use were adequate to pay our sin debt because it required a perfect spotless sacrifice and every one of us was marred by sin. Even if we went to the cross we could not have settled the requirement to establish peace.

Only Jesus could make the reconciliation. Jesus paid it all. All to Him I owe. Sin had a left a crimson stain. He washed it white as snow.
